The origins and the ancient domain
Perched on the peaceful banks of the Indre River, the Domaine de la Tortinière bears traces of a history dating back several centuries. For a long time, the valley was crossed by the Roman road linking Tours to Poitiers, and in the Middle Ages, a keep watched over the surrounding area from Montbazon. The first manor house, which stood here long before the château we know today, saw families and lords come and go, each leaving their mark.
It is said that Charles Perrault, the illustrious storyteller, drew inspiration for his tales from these mysterious surroundings. Even back then, the gardens were home to rare and majestic species, such as giant sequoias and three-headed sophora trees, which can still be admired today. With its picturesque paths and century-old trees, the estate quietly prepared for the arrival of a new era.
